1. Why are you conducting the UX Census (RVA) Survey? The User Experience field continues to change and career paths are not very clear. It’s a bit of a maze like this picture of tangled wires. 2024 has been a year of great change from continued —continued tech layoffs, AI everywhere, and spirited discussions about the role of UX, Design, Product, etc. There’s lots to understand how these and other changes are affecting the UX Community in & around the Richmond, VA area.
The UX Census (RVA) Survey provides some much-needed clarity on the UX landscape in the Richmond, VA area. The aggregate findings are shared publicly, so all of the UX Community can all benefit.
2. Who is conducts the UX Census (RVA) Survey?
Lisa D. Dance, UX Designer/Founder of ServiceEase, created and spearheads the UX Census (RVA) Survey in collaboration with Richmond Design Group and RVA Content Strategy.

3. How does participating in the UX Census (RVA) Survey help you? It helps navigate a UX career easier by providing insights on actual job titles, salaries, skills, tools, job search, and more in the Richmond, VA area. Whether you are happy in your current role, looking for a new position, wanting to learn a new skill, or need to hire a user experience professional, you have valuable information can make informed decisions. Additionally, participants who complete the survey have the option to enter a drawing for one of (3) $25 Rosenfeld Media gift cards.
4. Who should participate? You should participate if you live/work/go to school in the Richmond, VA area and:
currently work in a UX role*
are seeking a UX role
are a Student or Career Changer looking to enter the UX field
*UX roles include: User Experience Design, User Research, Interaction Design, Product Design, User Interface Design, Content Strategy, Information Architecture and other UX related roles!
6. What about privacy? The survey is anonymous. If you choose to enter the optional drawing, the email address you enter populates a separate database. Participants can enter the drawing for one of four gift cards.
7. With remote work increasing, why focus on the Richmond, VA area (RVA)? Every job market is different and to make the survey as informative as possible we concentrate on Richmond, VA area (RVA).
8. What’s new for the 2024 UX Census (RVA) Survey? It takes time and money to create, promote, analyze, and produce the survey for free each year, this year we are ask for the communities help to fund the survey through donations* and sponsorships*. 9. When will the survey report be available? Will there be any events related to survey report findings? The survey report will be available in October and and we’re plan on having an in-person event to accompany its release. Sign up for email updates or visit this website regularly for updates.
